The story of Harvest Meats is one of history, heritage, and passion. Our long-standing family tradition has evolved over the past century. Our great grandfather Alexander Propp and his family started a sausage business in Rhein, a small community near the peaceful prairie-town of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Since then, with over four generations of family management and growth, we’ve expanded into food retailing, wholesaling, and even the restaurant sector.
Currently, Harvest is under the management of Kenn Propp. He and the family have kept 50 of the original recipes to this day. Recognizing changes in consumer tastes, they have also added about 150 new recipes to expand the selection of delicious products.
Today, our team has grown to over 250 people at a facility with over 165,000 square feet. True to our heritage, we continue to produce delicious products, using state-of-the-art equipment within a safety-first team culture.
We still make our products the traditional way. We put quality ingredients in our products and only use select cuts of pork and beef. We don’t use any meat fillers or by products. All of our smoked products are made using natural hardwood smoke instead of the artificial chemical dips and sprays used by many other brands. For most of our products, we add no gluten and we only add MSG to our Garlic Coil sausages.
Based in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, our business is based on four generations of family management, so our culture is truly warm – everyone is part of the extended family and being based in a small town certainly makes that natural. There are hundreds of people in the Harvest family who make products for communities nationwide so it’s no surprise that they are all very important to us.
